INTRODUCTION

Most countries have a secondary Gravel Road network that covers thousands or tens of thousands of kms.
Those networks provide millions of people with vital access to work, stores, schools and health care
facili es. These roads are also a cri cal factor in facilita ng country's development and agriculture growth
by linking villages with ci es, farms, forests, mines—as well as manufacturers and product distributors.

THE PROBLEM: Dust produced by trafc on unpaved roads:

Ü Impairs the vision of drivers

Ü Poses a safety risk to pedestrians
Ü Potentially threatens the quality of fresh produce on its way to market or for export
Ü Causes damage to vehicles

An unsealed Gravel Road is subject to degradation with every passing vehicle, as well as a large loss of material
and erosion with rain.

When gravel roads deteriorate, rutting, potholes, and corrugation form, increasing the need for expensive and
time-consuming maintenance – of constant grading and compacting and if done properly, the importation of
addition material.

An EBS Surface Sealed Gravel Road will never have to be graded again.

Thereby substantially reducing maintenance and delivering a greatly improved road
– the alternative is asphalt which is usually not practical or within allotted budgets –
Asphalt is not water resistant and with time will develop potholes, where an EBS Surface treated road will not.
