Construction of Military Convoy Road in UAE

Soil & Dust Solutions was called to provide on site technical assistance for the construction of a Military Convoy Road. This project presented a host of challenges, as the in-situ soil was sand; the road could not be closed to traffic and remained open during construction and application; the area was totally exposed to the wind which caused huge dust problems and resulting poor visibility; the equipment provided did not meet the specification; and soaring temperatures exceeding 45° C.

In order to overcome the problems when dealing with sand and not having a proper aggregate, the base layer was completed in two separate layers, using the soil stabilizer (EBS) diluted with water, and mixed into the first 150 mm layer and then compacted with a second layer on top. As the road was in the open, the berms and sides were also treated as a preventative dust control measure. The final surface seal allowed for a superior dust free wearing course.
