Private Estate Gravel Road Improvement

Private Estate Gravel Road Improvement

Soil & Dust Solutions was contracted to perform an upgrade to the existing gravel road and parking areas throughout the Estate in order to create a more usable gravel road surface that blends in with the surrounding environment thus creating a more pleasant atmosphere throughout the Estate.

  • Site inspections were conducted and samples were taken from the road and sent to the laboratory for testing to determine the best mix ratio for this particular road.
  • The roadbed and all parking areas were planed and milled to a pre-determined depth to ensure the homogenously breaking down and mixing of the in-situ material.
  • All stones and debris exceeding 50mm were removed from the surface.
  • A tractor and rotovator were used for all mixing and the EBS was sprayed manually as trees and the width of the road limited the access for machinery.
  • After the mixing was complete a tractor and box blade was used for the final shaping of the surface and then the surface was ironed with the vibrating roller to ensure proper compaction.

The final step was a surface seal of EBS, which was applied by hand in the tighter areas and using a trailer with a pump and spray bar to ensure even spraying and distribution of the EBS over the road surface. This surface seal will protect the surface from the weather, ensure proper water run-off as well as make the surface UV resistant.

The final result is a natural-looking environmentally friendly flexible road surface that blends in perfectly with the natural surroundings of the Estate. Your new road is UV and water-resistant, has increased skid resistance, has a reduction against freeze-thaw heaving, is safe for vegetation, wildlife and animals and will not require any future grading or watering.

Private Estate Walking Path Construction

Private Estate Walking Path Construction

A private Estate was looking for a way to upgrade or reconstruct the walking path located within their Estate and contacted Soil & Dust Solutions for possible options. The walking path is a natural feature of the Estate and therefore the construction methodology used was designed to preserve the path without disturbing the surrounding environment by limiting the amount of equipment and machinery to be used and causing no harm to the vegetation.

The aggregate material was mixed in a cement mixer and made into a slurry, which was then transported by truck to the path and put in place using wheelbarrows. Before the slurry was put in place a tack coat of EBS was applied to pre-wet the in-situ surface in order to loosen the tension of the in-situ soil in order to ensure that the slurry binds properly.

The slurry mixture was spread by hand using floats and a board for leveling. Trees were incorporated into the pathway and stones were placed and stacked along the sides of the pathway creating a natural-looking edge keeping with the natural look and feel of the Estate. Soft brooms were used to brush over the surface creating a natural textured look to the pathway. Lastly, after given sufficient time for drying a surface seal of EBS was applied providing a final protective sealant over the pathway making it UV and weather resistant.

The final result is a beautiful looking natural path that blends in with the surrounding environment perfectly.

Private Estate Parking Area Dust Control

Private Estate Parking Area Dust Control

Soil & Dust Solutions was contacted by a Private Estate looking for a solution to reduce the dust in the contractor parking area. As the area only required dust control an EBS surface seal was the recommended solution for the parking area. The area was swept clean of all leaves and debris then pre-wet with water to loosen the tension of the soil allowing for proper penetration of the EBS into the surface. The EBS Soil Stabilizer was applied manually using a pump and spray system on the back of a truck. The surface seal will protect the area from erosion, make the area UV and weather resistant, eliminate the dust and blend in with natural surroundings of the Estate.
